Sri Jai Sathya Mission Chennai Flood Relief

During the past few days, Chennai began experiencing its worst disaster since the 2004 tsunami tragedy. The annual monsoon brought continuous rainfall and powerful winds resulting in catastrophic flooding which killed over 280 people and damaged thousands of houses across the city. The Sri Jai Sathya Mission (SJSM), guided by founder Sri Jayanthi Kumaraswami, joined in assisting people affected by the floods. On 6th December, 2015, Swamiji visited flood victims in disaster-stricken areas to get a first hand view of the damages. Swamiji also toured the slum areas to render Her assistance.

With great humility, Her Holiness walked through the floods and distributed clothing to the thousands of Chennaites who lost their clothes in the floods. In addition, Swamiji saw it fit to distribute peanut cakes that are high in iron and protein, and boosts energy. During this time of adversity, Swamiji reminds us to be our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers. “Love, protection and support are the roots of human society. Man needs these three. When one shows these, the World will prosper,” says Swamiiji.

The Sri Jai Sathya Mission will continue its Chennai Flood Relief Initiative during the next week.
